The Department of Classics offers a range of courses which
fulfils the academic requirements of the McAnulty College.
General requirements for the College include courses in
the areas of Language, History or Literature, and Communication.
The Department offers courses in Classical Latin, Classical
Greek, (and Sanskrit) up to the 202 proficiency level and
beyond. Since these later courses are actual works of literature
in the original language, all courses above the 100 level
count both toward the College Literature requirement and
its Language requirement.
Any courses in archaeology and ancient history may be
used to meet the College requirement for History. Similarly
the Department's offerings of courses in English translation
and Classical Mythology (CLSSX 123) meet the general Literature
requirement.
Students seeking an alternative for the Communication
requirement should consider any of the Etymology offerings.
Please consult with the Classics department (x6450) or the
College Academic Advisors for further information.
