Requirements for any of the Majors, Minors or Cognate Areas within the Department of Classics:

Majors:

The department offers a major program of study of 24 credits in Classical Civilization (for which Latin/Greek language mastery is not a requirement); or a major in Classical Latin; or a major in Classical Greek; and also a major in the Classical Languages (both Greek and Latin). The candidate for the bachelor of arts degree in Classical Languages will take at least 24 credits in Latin or in Greek with a minimum of 18 credits in one language and six credits in the other.

All credits applied to the major must be at the 200 level or above. Additional credits are required of any major; these are in either classical archaeology or ancient history or classical literature or classical art or ancient philosophy.

The department maintains a collaborative arrangement with our School of Education which can allow a student to graduate with both a B.A. degree from the McAnulty College, a B.S. degree from the School of Education and also with Pennsylvania certification in Latin.
Please contact this department for details.

Students are invited to consult with the department for more information.  Visit College Hall 404; or telephone (412) 396-6450; or e-mail the Classics department at classics@duq.edu.
