Course Objectives: Egyptian Civilization 249 will examine the history and culture of the world's earliest civilized nation. Following a detailed investigation of the well-documented history of Egypt from the prehistoric period to the time of the Roman conquest of Egypt, the course will focus upon several aspects of the material culture of the Egyptians as these are manifested in art, religion, literature, and the sciences. Lectures will be supplemented with slides and a visit to the Walton Hall of Egypt at Carnegie Museum.

Requirements: Students will be expected to keep up with all assigned readings and to be able to discuss them in class. There will be three examinations. No makeups are allowed on exams.

Final Exam: The final exam will be held in the regularly assigned classroom according to the University final exam schedule. According to that schedule, the final exam will be on Thursday, April 24, 2008 from 8:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
